How To Cope With Moving Schools In The Middle Of The Year

Are you planning to move to another school in the middle of the year? It may be because you have just moved houses or because you didn’t like your previous school. Whatever the reason is, it is time for a fresh new start. In today’s article, I’ll be sharing with you some tips on how to move schools and settle into it very easily and efficiently. These tips are based on my own experience of moving schools. I recently moved schools in April 2018 as a year 8 student. It may be difficult but these tips allowed me to ease the difficulties. And after 8 months of staying in this new school, I feel ready to share my own tips with you.

This article will be split up into two parts: what to do before going to the school, and what to do on your first weeks of school.

What to do before your first day:

  • Check the school website.

Checking the school website can really allow you to know the rules and regulations of the school and the policies that they follow at the same time. The school may also have an equipment or stationery checklist with certain things that you may have to carry around with you in school.

  • Buy your school uniform or outfits.

If the school you are attending requires a uniform, make sure that you don’t leave it to the last minute. The school website may provide a link to where you can buy the school uniform from so check it out and buy it as soon as possible.

  • Book an appointment to check the teachers or have a tour of the school

This allows you to ask any questions to the teacher that you are meeting. For example, I met my Head Of Year before my first day of school and it was really useful as I was able to ask any questions that I had in mind. Having a tour of the school also allows you to see the environment that you’ll be staying in and meet a few people that may help you.

What to do on the first weeks of school (tips):

  • Pretend as if you were always in the school.
  • Do not feel afraid to ask questions.
  • Go to groups of different people and see which ones invite you the most.
  • Be yourself.
  • Smile and be kind to everyone.
  • Ignore hate.
  • Go to extracurricular activities provided in the school to make new friends.
  • Get advice from teachers.
  • Try not to miss any days of school.
  • Focus on your education.
  • Overall, make a good impression of yourself to everyone and don’t be late, especially on the first day of school.

I hope you have enjoyed this article and all these tips. If this does help you, please share it with your family and friends. Hopefully, you will be able to settle into the school but do report to your teachers or parents if there are any issues concerning moving school.
