FiLLi Cafe is a cafe that is originally in Dubai and it is currently so popular in TikTok. They sell Indian food. So was this the best Indian street food I have ever tried, or is this simply overrated?

What is FiLLi Cafe?

FiLLi Cafe is a cafe that sells sandwiches, snacks and drinks. The signature item is the Zafran tea. We went to the branch in Marylebone, London.

My Experience And What I Ate:

Chicken Dynamite Pizza (£10.99)

This pizza can only be described in one word: delicious! Firstly, the pizza looked awesome with a drizzle of the orange sauce and it had a nice orange-brown colour. This pizza had a juicy texture and the flavours were outstanding. I would highly recommend this pizza and I would rate it a 5/5. However, the pizza can really fill up one person or maximum two people as the pizza was not that large in size.

Chicken Fill Z (£5.29)

Next up was the burger, which was the low of this cafe. This burger looked like a pretty standard small burger on the outside. On the inside, it was sticky and red inside with little flavours and the bread was just standard. Overall, this was underwhelming so I would rate this a 2/5 and I would not recommend this.

Manchurian Foodles (£6.99)

However, do not fret, because this was one of the most unique dishes I have tried and gosh, it was amazing! It was a 5/5 because this dish had an egg on top which melted like honey and on the inside, the noodles were packed with spice and flavour, which was nicely washed down with the Zafran tea I had separately It was in this small container and the portion size was good too. Absolutely fantastic dish!

Medium Iced Spiced Zafran Chai Lemonade (£4.99)

This chai lemonade was brilliant! Firstly I have to appreciate the most unique packaging of this drink. To open this drink felt like a new experience because the drink was in a ziplock bag and I had to weave the straw through the hole and drink this. This tea has a nice yellow colour and it was so sweet, cold and soothing. It was the perfect way to cool down the spice from the savoury foods. Would give this another 5/5 because of its unicity and originality!

What did I like about FiLLi Cafe?

  • This cafe was definitely very unique. You had to go up a flight of stairs and there were well lit smaller sofas on the sides where you could look down on the windows, where my sister and I decided to sit. There were also tables on the middle for bigger families and gatherings.
  • It was well lit and it was orange and black in colour.
  • The staff were a bit tired and unbothered and the waiting times were a bit long, but they still provided great food, which is what I needed so I cannot complain!

What didn’t I like about FiLLi Cafe?

  • As I said, the staff and the service was a bit slow, especially as we went at lunchtime. Otherwise, there was nothing wrong with the cafe!

Would I Recommend It?

I would recommend this cafe 100% as it really brought out some new Indian food, different from the previous afternoon teas I have tried. I just recommend not taking the burger but apart from that, all the other items were great and filling! Also, it was very modern and the environment and atmosphere was nice for me and my sister to have our girly chats.

My Rating: 5/5

This was my short review or diary entry about FiLLi Cafe. These are my opinions about this place. Make sure to check out my other articles.

Girls Day Out In Cinnamon Bazaar and Winter Wonderland 2022 https://surobiscribbles.com/girls-day-out-in-cinnamon-bazaar-and-winter-wonderland-2022/ Sun, 15 Jan 2023 19:37:26 +0000 https://surobiscribbles.com/?p=1724 Hello everyone! In the month of December 2022, my sister and I had a special day out to have some food, take some photos and see new places. On Saturday 24th December 2022, we decided to go to Cinnamon Bazaar, a unique looking Indian restaurant as well as the all-famous Winter Wonderland. Was this a great way to spend the day?

What is Cinnamon Bazaar?

Cinnamon Bazaar is a modern Indian restaurant in Covent Garden. This contains Indian afternoon tea, desserts and many other foods.

My Experience And What I Ate:

  • Cinnamon Bazaar was a beautiful restaurant that had these sky lanterns on the ceilings and the restaurant just had a pop of colour in it.
  • The restaurant was posh and was quite pricey.

Afternoon Tea (£27.50)

This afternoon had some of the best Asian classics! I took Indian Masala Chai, Pani Puri, the non vegetarian nibbles and for sweets, we had saffron macaron.

The Indian Masala Chai was warm and just a wonderful chai to have in general. It had the nice brown Asian colour and was freshly brewed. I wished it was a bit stronger in flavour, and for that reason I would rate it a 3/5.

The Pani Puri for me was really delicious! It was a bit spicy and had the tamarind to add, but they were a little thinner than other pani puris. I would have to rate this a 3/5.

The Papdi Chaat ended up being one of my favourite dishes here as it contained the different textures. It was soft and creamy on the outside as well as a crunch on the golden bits. Overall, this had many flavours I could taste from this and o really enjoyed this snack so I would rate this a 4/5.

The Watermelon Chaat seemed like a very unique combination to me. It had a bright red colour. The Asian flavours were truly highlighted from the top due to chickpeas and the masalas and again, there was a good play in different seasonings. The watermelon gave some freshness. However, I still rate this a 2/5 just because I don’t think I like fruits in my chaats.

The fish finger sandwich was better than I expected, yet it still had the smell of fish that I did not particularly enjoy. The Brad was soft and the colours were nice but due to the smell of the fish, I really would not want to eat this again. But this was expected as it is an Asian restaurant and I would rate it a 2/5.

The chicken rolls were quite delicious. They were very cute and small and they had a bit of a crunch from the outside. I enjoyed having these but I wish the portions were bigger of these. I would rate it a 3/5.

Lastly, for dessert we had the macarons which were okay and I have tasted better macarons before. They were small and they had cinnamon cream inside. Overall, I would say that it was a 3/5.

What did I like about Cinnamon Bazaar?

  • The place itself was incredibly unique due to the vibrant, bright colours and the decoration on the ceiling.
  • The service was good too and there was enough tables. The tables are a little small for the two seaters but we could manage.
  • You can take good photos here!

What didn’t I like about Cinnamon Bazaar?

  • The food was definitely a mix in the bag. Some of them were average, such as the macarons and others were delicious such as the pani puri and chaat.

Would I Recommend It?

I think Cinnamon Bazaar is a unique place to go and it does sell afternoon tea and some of the dishes stood out, however, I believe that it is not necessarily a must go place and I would only visit this place once.

My Rating: 3/5

For the rest of the day, my sister and I went to Winter Wonderland 2022, which honestly, was a bit underwhelming. Things have definitely gotten more expensive now and the rides are pretty much the same but it is nice to go for the vibes and the photos. My sister bought me a postcard with our selfie on it as a nice memoir. But overall, Winter Wonderland is a must go only once in your life.

This was my short review or diary entry about Cinnamon Bazaar. These are my opinions about this place. Make sure to check out my other articles.

Bond Street and Seven Dials Market / Best Place To Visit In Winter 2022? https://surobiscribbles.com/bond-street-and-seven-dials-market-best-place-to-visit-in-winter-2022/ Fri, 09 Dec 2022 22:02:13 +0000 https://surobiscribbles.com/?p=1681 Hello everyone! I feel so grateful to say that I had a wonderful day out with my sister after finishing my Year 13 mock exams. My sister and I explored Bond Street in the cold but cosy weather. We tried the Ralph Lauren hot chocolates as well as trying new food in the Seven Dials Market featuring food from all over the world! In this article, I will be reviewing the different places I went to.

What is Bond Street?

Bond Street is an area in London that has many beautiful buildings including high end stores and cafes. My sister and I also went to Seven Dials Market.

My Experience And What I Ate:

  • Firstly, my sister and I roamed around Bond Street with the pretty lights and there were high end stores such as Dolce and Gabbana. At that specific store, I did not enjoy it as much as the staff kept following us for security reasons which made sense but it left me and my sister feeling a little uncomfortable.
  • My sister and I then went to the Ralph Lauren Cafe to try the hot chocolate and also walk around the Ralph Lauren store.
  • In Seven Dials Market, my sister and I were amongst the crowds of people and we tried three different foods and one drink.

Ralph Lauren Hot Chocolate (£4.45)

This hot chocolate was overall delicious! It tasted of rich chocolate and it was also quite affordable. It was also given in a Ralph Lauren cup. For the price and the brand, I was quite happy with the hot chocolate. It wasn’t anything unique but it satisfied me.

Dumplings From Osh Paz Dumplings  (£13.50)

This was my first time trying Uzbek food! We were given eight dumplings along with some cucumber, tomatoes and sauces. Overall the dumplings were of different sizes and we tried three different flavours – vegan, beef and chicken. I personally liked the beef one. It was executed nicely, with a waiting time of about 10-15 minutes. It looked appetising as it was shiny and it tasted uncommon yet I liked the texture of the dumplings. Overall, it was a 4/5.

Matcha Wheelcake from Wheelcake Island (£3)

Next up I tried the Wheelcake. This Wheelcake contained matcha. It was very small in size and you could identify the flavour from the pattern on the bun. The waiting time was painfully long as it took around 20-25 minutes despite it being small. Overall, it didn’t deserve the long wait as it was burning hot for me and the matcha was not very strong. Perhaps, the chocolate and vanilla ones are better. I would rate this a 2/5.

Cookies and Cream Crème Brûlée Crepe Cones From Boolay (£6.60)

This was one of the most exciting new foods I tried as I had seen Crème Brûlée in Masterchef before and I wanted to really try it.  Firstly, I must appreciate the experience of watching the lady make the cone in front of us. This composed of putting the crepe in the cone, pouring the chocolate inside and then placing the top on fire slightly to make it slightly burnt and create the crème brûlée. The waiting time was around 15-20 minutes for this. In terms of appearance, it was quite small but you could see the orange at the top with the gleam from the fire. In terms of taste, I really enjoyed tasting the chocolate inside. I expected there to be a bit more of a crackle when I ate the top,but it wasn’t so the texture was not the best. But the taste was nice and for that reason, I would rate this a 4/5.

Kadak Chai From Chai Guys (£7.60)

The last item of this article was the Kadak Chai. This chai did not taste bad but it was not the best kadak chai I had. I liked how it was in a cup with the brand and it was freshly made in front of us, yet it did not meet my standards. Overall, I would rate this a 4/5.

What did I like about Bond Street?

  • The colourful lights in the dark are so pretty and they illuminate the whole road.
  • There are many high end stores to explore and look around in.
  • Seven Dials Market had so many people and the diversity of the foods and people was spectacular!

What didn’t I like about Bond Street?

  • You may not be able to purchase many items as many of them are very expensive.
  • You also have to ensure that you check that all the food is Halal and avoid going to places that serve alcohol.

Would I Recommend It?

I would recommend Bond Street, especially in winter when there are all the lights (stay safe though!) I would also recommend Seven Dials Market but check for Halal food and be prepared for long waiting times especially in the weekends and holidays.

This was my short review or diary entry about Bond Street and Seven Dials Market. These are my opinions about this place. Make sure to check out my other articles.

Humble Crumble Review / The Most Unique Dessert In London? https://surobiscribbles.com/humble-crumble-review-the-best-dessert-in-london/ Sun, 06 Nov 2022 09:00:00 +0000 https://surobiscribbles.com/?p=1652

When I tried Charista, I had room left in my stomach for some dessert! My sister and I decided to try a new dessert that was quite popular on Instagram known as Humble Crumble. But was it truly overrated?

What is Humble Crumble?

Humble Crumble is a crumble bar that sells crumble to eat on the go or at home. I went to the Old Spitalfields Market branch.

What I Ordered And My Opinions On It:

Half and Half (Large) (with vegan chocolate drizzle) – (£8.00)

This crumble contained apple and cinnamon, rhubarb and strawberry, classic shortbread and more crumble topping. I believe that this crumble was pretty appetising to look at. It was made and executed the way it should be, and it had a nice brown and yellow colour on the front due to the chocolate and custard. In terms of taste, I believe that it tasted pretty good with the unique combination of chocolate and crumble. I was a bit full before having the dessert, so this may have had an effect on my taste. Overall, I found this crumble to be a nice dessert but not outstanding so it would be a good 3/5.

The Place:

The place is a stall/spot. There are not any direct dining areas for this stall but you may have to look for a seat in other areas of the market (which can be difficult to find when it’s busy). It can be quite busy so you may need to wait in the queue in the market for your dessert.

The Service:

The staff members were quite kind and informed us that the food was vegetarian and the server gave us our own choice of toppings. The waiting time also was reasonable for the amount of people there were. Overall, I was satisfied with the service.

Would I Recommend It?

This was a unique dessert and one that is not found in the typical dessert place. I did enjoy the combination of chocolate and crumble and how it was presented (so it can be Instagrammable) however, as I was full and just not familiar with this dessert, I would give this a dessert and place a 3/5. It is pretty overrated to me, but i would say just try this place once.

My Rating: 4/5

My Rating System:

⅕ – was below average and would not recommend even trying once

⅖ – the food was average and would not recommend trying

⅗ – the food was delicious but would recommend trying maximum once

⅘ – the food was really good and would recommend trying here

5/5 – the food was outstanding and is one of my favorites!

Oxford Circus and Crêpes, Coffee & Chai Review / Solo Travel 5 https://surobiscribbles.com/oxford-circus-and-crepes-coffee-chai-review-solo-travel-5/ Sun, 21 Aug 2022 20:33:41 +0000 http://surobiscribbles.com/?p=1600

This week, I had a lovely time solo travelling alone to Oxford Circus. On Tuesday 16th August 2022, I went to Oxford Circus, as it is known to be one of the top tourist spots. It is located in Central London, and is filled with a variety of shops. So, was it really amazing or somewhat overrated?

What is Oxford Circus?

Oxford Circus is known to be the world’s biggest high street.

What did I like about Oxford Circus?

  • I mostly just walked around the whole time, went in and out of shops, and gazed at the bust streets of London. Oxford Circus has a variety of retail, food and fashion shops, and there is something that everyone will enjoy looking at. Whether you want to go and have a coffee at Costa, or you want to roam around at the most expensive shops, you can walk and/or shop around.
  • It is circular so yes, you do end up probably in the same spot if you keep walking around.
  • The amount of diversity here was remarkable. People from different ethnicities, religions, and nationalities were here (of course, mostly white dominated but still a wide range of people).

What didn’t I like about Oxford Circus?

  • In the shops, apart from shopping, there are not really any activities you can do. As a person who was solo travelling, I mostly just walked around and explored the place. I also tried a mocha, which you will see below. It can get boring quickly.
  • Food and drinks can be more expensive and may not be Halal all the time, so watch out for that.
  • Please do not get lost! If you are out by yourself, make sure not to get lost, as despite there being many people and pretty safe, I believe it is better to be safe than sorry!

Crêpes, Coffee & Chai

What I Ordered And My Opinions On It:

Iced Mocha (around £3.80)

Being a person who loves mocha, I had to try mocha. I was already expecting the prices to be higher in Central London. And I was correct. This was pretty expensive and the cup was not even that large. The mocha tasted delicious but pretty much a normal standard mocha. I did expect it to be a little more extravagant in taste, but it didn’t live up to that. It also looked pretty standard, with the cup not being branded or anything. Overall, did I get a mocha? Yes. Therefore, I would rate it a ⅗.

The Place:

The shop was medium in size with seating areas (eating in is more expensive). There were around 3 staff members and the man who served me was especially kind as he answered any questions about the drinks and also even told me the process on how to make the mocha. He delivered a good service for the shop.

The Service:

The mocha took longer than I expected. I think it took a good 4-5 minutes, even though there was no queue.

My Rating: 3/5

Would I Recommend It?

I would recommend coming to Oxford Circus/Street once as a tourist as it is the ‘world’s biggest high street’. I do think this place is for people who like to walk or shop around or hang out with family/friends. I felt very grateful to be in such a lively place! But, if you shop there frequently, it can get boring.

For  Crêpes, Coffee & Chai., I think it was a ⅗. Nice to try once, but maybe not again.

Blu Ivy Cafe / The Best English Breakfast In London? https://surobiscribbles.com/blu-ivy-cafe-the-best-english-breakfast-in-london/ Sat, 13 Aug 2022 11:07:49 +0000 http://surobiscribbles.com/?p=1583

One of the foods that my sister and I wanted to try for a very long time was English breakfast. An English breakfast looks so varied, colourful and British! This is why in August of 2021, we went to try an English breakfast in a unique place, none other than Blu Ivy Cafe.

What is Blu Ivy Cafe?

Blu Ivy Cafe is a cafe in Bethnal Green that sells food and drinks. The cafe is very nice as it is right next to the canal, making it quite romantic.

What I Ordered And My Opinions On It:

Halal English Breakfast
My chocolate miilkshake

Halal Full English Breakfast

For breakfast, I had a chocolate milkshake. Overall, the breakfast contained everything you needed – eggs, bread, beans, hash browns, turkey, tomatoes, sauce, melon and even tangerines. This was like a brunch for us. The plate looked so colourful and so appetising that I wanted to dig in straightaway. This definitely filled me up and even the chocolate milkshake was delicious, being a chocolate lover. I felt happy trying the different textures of the foods, from the creaminess of the sauce to the hardness of the hash browns. I really enjoyed eating out next to the canal and having great conversations with my sister – I would totally recommend coming here with a loved one!

The Place:

The place was medium size and there were seating areas both inside and outside. My sister and I decided to eat outside as it was a new experience by the canal, but were pestered a little by mosquitoes (lol!)

The Service:

The service overall was good. It did take a reasonable amount of time to make the food and the waiters were nice and gave us our food to our tables.

Would I Recommend It?

Overall, I think that Blu Ivy Cafe was a unique experience. Not only did I get to try some English breakfast which was actually Halal, but I also enjoyed the aesthetics of the place. I would recommend coming here!

My Rating: 4/5

My Rating System:

⅕ – was below average and would not recommend even trying once

The London Wonderground and Baegel / The Best Funfair In London?  https://surobiscribbles.com/the-london-wonderground-and-baegel-the-best-funfair-in-london/ Sat, 13 Aug 2022 10:29:29 +0000 http://surobiscribbles.com/?p=1578 Funfairs are one of the things that make London really fun. They bring a diverse range of people from all walks of life. So, last year, I went to the London Wonderground and I thought I would share my opinions on this funfair.

What is London Wonderground?

The London Wonderground is a funfair in London that is famous for its street food and activities.

What happened in London Wonderground?

My sister and I went to the London Wonderground. On the day, it was very empty and there were barely any people. This made me and my sister realise the importance of having a busy funfair to bring out the summer vibes. We went to look at the sand, got some candy and also later had food in Baegel. Overall, because the funfair was pretty empty, the weather was not too sunny and the rides were pretty standard, I didn’t find this funfair to be that fun. Due to the reasons above, I rated this funfair a ⅖.  It is better to come on a day where it is sunny and come along with family and friends! But don’t stop here, read below!

Baegel:

What is Baegel?

Baegel was a food stall in the London Wonderground where my sister and I tried some burgers!

What I Ordered And My Opinions On It:

Bae N Fried Chicken Burger (£8.50)

This burger was one of the best burgers I tried! Since the funfair was empty, the queue was very short but the man took very long to make the burgers. It was executed how I wanted it to be executed. In terms of appearance and so large in size. It would fill you up. Overall, the taste was absolutely amazing! The sauce, the chicken and the halloumi made this burger spectacular and really brought out all the flavours. I really enjoyed having this burger. I know the burger is quite pricey but since it is in a funfair and it was large, I would still try it again in another funfair.

The Place:

The shop was a stall with one man making and serving the burgers in the London Wonderground funfair. There are seating areas available in the funfair, so my sister and I sat on the benches and ate the food!

The Service:

As I mentioned already, it did take a pretty long time to get the burgers, but watch out if there is a long queue.

Would I Recommend It?

Overall, I rated the food from Baegel a ⅘. I totally think everyone who sees a Baegel should try this burger but it isn’t the cheapest burger out there, so I could not rate it a 5 on this occasion.

Fortnum and Mason / Which Store Is Better? https://surobiscribbles.com/fortnum-and-mason-which-store-is-better/ Wed, 10 Aug 2022 20:23:19 +0000 http://surobiscribbles.com/?p=1574

A lot of people know Harrods, as it is the world’s leading luxury department store. But one place that my sister and I visited and that seemed like the sister of Harrods was none other than Fortnum And Mason. My sister and I visited the new outlet at the Royal Exchange last year too. Did we enjoy it?

What is Fortnum and Mason?

Fortnum and Mason is an upmarket department store in Piccadilly, London. My sister and I visited this original store a few years ago, but around 2018/2019, the Royal Exchange opened a new outlet for Fortnum and Mason too. My sister and I then visited the new outlet last year. So, which one was better?

What did I like about Fortnum and Mason?

  • On both of the times we went, Fortnum and Mason was very posh, and it definitely brings out those elite vibes.
  • If you aspire to be wealthy in the future, looking around these types of shops can be quite inspiring.
  • In both stores, there was a variety of shops available, although I must say that the shop in Piccadilly was much larger in size and had a greater range of shops.
  • Because the shop in The Royal Exchange was mostly a food shop, I realised that there was also not much Halal food available.

What didn’t I like about Fortnum and Mason?

  • Of course, the items in Fortnum and Mason, just like Harrods, are very expensive.
  • Due to the high pricing, there may be little activities available for you to do.

Would I recommend it?

I think that if you enjoy shopping in general, or you have enjoyed being at Harrods before, then Fortnum and Mason is a must-go place. I would totally recommend the Piccadilly store over the Royal Exchange store, just because of its larger size, greater range and possibly more Halal options. But you are free to check both of them out if you want!

This was my short review or diary entry about Fortnum and Mason. These are my opinions about this place. Make sure to check out my other articles.

Festival Gardens Review / The Most Relaxing Garden In London? https://surobiscribbles.com/festival-gardens-review-the-most-relaxing-garden-in-london/ Sun, 07 Aug 2022 20:17:31 +0000 http://surobiscribbles.com/?p=1569

Hello everyone! Another place that I visited with my sister in London back in July/August 2021 was Festival Gardens. Festival Gardens was a…you guessed it…garden but was this a special garden that is worth visiting?

What is Festival Gardens?

Festival Gardens is a garden which is a 2 minute walk from St Paul’s Cathedral.

What did I like about Festival Gardens?

  • The garden was organised into little patches of green grass. It was very beautiful and there were many colourful flowers and plants to look at.
  • There were fountains for decoration with the clear blue water coming out.
  • There was also many seating areas available.

What didn’t I like about Festival Gardens?

  • The garden did not have any activities to do. There were mostly just couples and family there which meant it was quite boring.
  • The garden is a pretty reasonable size, but it is not too big so again, you can’t really play sports.

Would I recommend it?

I think that despite this garden being one of the very many nice gardens and spots that London has to offer, I must say that I don’t think it was one of my top-rate parks or gardens. Therefore, it is not a must-go place.

This was my short review or diary entry about Festival Gardens. These are my opinions about this place. Make sure to check out my other articles.

Black Sheep Coffee Review / The Finest Coffee Shop In London? https://surobiscribbles.com/black-sheep-coffee-review-the-best-coffee-shop-in-london%ef%bf%bc/ Mon, 01 Aug 2022 21:12:10 +0000 http://surobiscribbles.com/?p=1560 Back in July 2021, my sister and I decided to try a new coffee shop. This was one that was pretty unique. The selection of drinks that were ordered were very exclusive. So, did we enjoy our new drinks, or are we just never going to try this place again?

What is Black Sheep Coffee?

Black Sheep Coffee is a coffee shop that is ‘promised to serve the finest specialty grade coffee’. We went to the branch near Bank.

What I Ordered And My Opinions On It:

The Berry Protein Drink (£5.45)

This drink looked very different as it was of this purple colour, which made it look very interesting to me. At first, I thought it tasted like bananas, but then I realized it was actually the peanut butter in the drink. The flavours were different so even though it was a drink, the flavours mixed together too much and it didn’t hit the mark for me, especially for the price.

The Place:

The place was pretty large for a coffee shop and it was definitely okay to sit down, relax or even study in. You could totally come with some friends as there were plenty of seating areas available.

The Service:

The service overall was good. I believe that the staff members were quite nice in general.

Would I Recommend It?

Overall, I think that Black Sheep Coffee was slightly overrated for me and I believe that the price was too high for what they offered. But I would recommend trying once due to its popularity and to perhaps try these new flavours.

My Rating: 3/5
