Assalamu alaikum, fellow Muslims and non-Muslims. 

We may all know the importance of the Qur’an, the Holy Book written by Allah (swt). However, we may not necessarily follow the teachings of the Qur’an and follow the role models that were sent to the Earth to spread the word of Islam. In order to remind you of the important lessons taught by each of the significant prophets mentioned in the Qur’an, I will In Sha Allah, be starting a prophets series. This will contain lessons I learnt from each of the prophets. I am trying my best to In Sha Allah post every day of Ramadan about each prophet.

Today, we will talk about our eighteenth prophet, who is Yusha or Joshua (pbuh). If you would like to know the story, sources are available below. If I also make any mistakes, I apologise and Allah (swt) knows the best. 

Allah will give you rewards for keeping faith in Him.

When the Bani Israel refused to fight the people in Palestine, only the prophets, Yusha (pbuh) and his friend Caleb had faith in Allah and encouraged them to fight and win the city of the promised land that was a land of many prophets (as commanded by Allah). 

After the Bani Israel refused, no adult from Bani Israel could enter Palestine but Allah allowed only Prophet Yusha (pbuh) and Caleb to enter the city.

Not everyone can become a prophet.

Caleb had a faith in Allah but Allah did not choose him as a prophet according to some sources.

Allah is so merciful.

Allah stopped the sun from setting when the new generation of Bani Israel were fighting because the day after that would be Sabbath. This was the only time in history where the sun stopped from setting due to Yusha’s request until the Bani Israel got victory.

Back in those times, the spoils of war (assets or money from the enemies that you have won from) were burned and destroyed.

Yusha (pbuh) instructed everyone to get all the wealth and put it into one place but the miracle fire that Allah sent was waiting. This was because one man’s tribe had evil people who were hiding some wealth from the enemies. Yusha (pbuh) made those people hiding their wealth give their wealth. It was all burned and all the items disappeared.

He passed away at the age of 100 after guiding the Bani Israel for twenty eight years after Prophet Musa (pbuh). He died in Palestine.
