In this series, I discuss hobbies/skills that I learnt throughout the month for the mind, body and soul.

When many people are asked why they don’t work out, one of the main reasons is the lack of time. However, is it just that you don’t have enough time or you are simply feeling lazy? For my March 2021 monthly hobby for the ‘body’ I decided to do a 7 minute workout every day after school. It doesn’t take much time, allows you to keep fit and allows you to have some me-time. In this article, I will share my experience, evaluation, advice and rating for this hobby.

My Experience:

  • Right after school, I would take a rest and then get out my exercise mat.
  • I would choose which workout I preferred to do from the different choices.
  • I would do this 7 minute workout and listen to some music.
  • Then, I would drink plenty of water and take some rest.

What I Learnt/What Went Well:

  • I really enjoyed the fact that it became part of my routine that I could do.
  • I felt happy that I was doing something for my health and I knew that 7 minutes of high-intensity exercise is better than nothing.
  • I started on the 8th March and remained consistent at it for quite a long time.
  • I managed to do it for 16/31 days.
  • It was quick, fun and easy.
  • I liked how I could choose which workout I wanted to do.

Even Better If:

  • I didn’t do it consistently for 30 days which is completely fine.
  • I wish the music in the app was slightly better but that was okay as you are free to listen to your own music.
  • I would want to increase the level of difficulty and the number of calories and possibly do it more times.

My Advice:

  • Incorporate some time in your routine to do the workout every day.
  • Track your progress every day in the app and increase it regularly.
  • If you struggle to find the motivation to workout, have someone to keep you accountable.
  • Make your workouts fun by listening to something fun (I listen to music by Ikson).

My Rating:

I would rate this hobby a 4.5/5.

The app I used:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.popularapp.sevenmins&hl=en_GB&gl=US

It is a very simple habit!

I Tried Walking 15 Minutes Outside Every Day. This Is What Happened. https://surobiscribbles.com/i-tried-walking-15-minutes-outside-every-day-this-is-what-happened/ Sun, 28 Feb 2021 21:26:54 +0000 http://surobiscribbles.com/?p=1000 This is my new series called ‘Monthly Hobby’. In this series, I discuss hobbies/skills that I learnt throughout the month for the mind, body and soul.

During this COVID-19 pandemic, everyone has been told to stay at home. However, where I live, it is still okay to go out for exercise or essential travel. So, for my February 2021 monthy hobby for the ‘body’ I decided to go out for a walk every day. In this article, I will share experience, evaluation, advice and rating for this hobby.

My Experience:

  • I would take safety precautions of COVID-19 and go out mostly in the mornings by myself and walk around my neighbourhood.
  • In the mornings, when I went out it was quite tranquil, gave me time to think, time to spend in nature and see the sunrise. It was also very quiet.
  • If I was going out in the afternoon, it would mostly be with my mother, so I got to chat with her.
  • It definitely helped in some ways e.g. change of environment.

What I Learnt/What Went Well:

  • I had quite mixed emotions to this.
  • I could listen to something outside when I was by myself and when with my mother, I could have my own private conversation with her.
  • It lets you be around nature which usually makes one happier.

Even Better If:

  • I didn’t do it consistently for 30 days which is completely fine.
  • It may have been nice to stick to the same time every day to walk.
  • I could have had a certain playlist to listen to when going out.

My Advice:

  • Incorporate some time in your routine to go out and add it to your daily to do list.
  • Make a playlist so you know what to listen to when you go out.
  • Reduce the friction to go out by having everything ready e.g. your face mask.

My Rating:

I would rate this hobby a 3/5.

It is a very simple habit!

I hope you enjoyed today’s article. Comment down below if you go for daily walks!

Health / Poetry by @surobiscribbles https://surobiscribbles.com/health-poetry-by-surobiscribbles/ Sun, 15 Nov 2020 19:30:06 +0000 http://surobiscribbles.com/?p=883
My poem on ‘Health’

One thing that many people take for granted is their good health. They may complain day and night about not having enough but the fact that they are actually able to say that in itself is a blessing…not everyone can speak. If you are looking at this, chances are you have eyes which is a blessing in itself. Since you are alive, your heart is pumping out blood.

There have been many cases that I have seen personally or heard of, of people who were well, fit and healthy but suddenly were inflicted with a disease or a health problem which may have impacted their life in some way.

This is not to scare you but for you to be grateful for the little things in life which to someone else may be great. Alhamdulillah, I have good health and you should thank God too.

Pray to God to keep us healthy and be grateful for it. And if you do have a certain problem, seek help and pray to God to heal it and also be thankful it wasn’t anything worse.

Be Happy. Be Healthy.

Please share this short, motivational reminder to anyone and everyone.

How to Keep Healthy While Fasting During Ramadan 2019// My Ramadan Series https://surobiscribbles.com/how-to-keep-healthy-while-fasting-during-ramadan-2019-my-ramadan-series/ Sat, 27 Apr 2019 12:27:07 +0000 http://surobiscribbles.com/?p=214

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said:

‘Eat Suhoor, for in Suhoor there is blessing.’ [Sunan Al-Nasa’i.]

Have you ever realised that you are very hungry throughout the daylight hours of Ramadan? And then you end up having a food coma after eating Iftar? This is not very healthy during Ramadan as you are not following the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). In order to feel more energetic and healthy during Ramadan, and if you are also trying to maintain or lose your weight, I would recommend reading this article.

These tips are based upon my research through Youtube and the Internet, and some information is from my own experience.

Never skip Suhoor – As said in the Hadith above, it is extremely important to have Suhoor. This will help you to not feel hungry throughout the day, earn blessings and let you fuel up on energy and nutrients.

Avoid overeating – This is a simple tip yet it’s so helpful to keep you healthy during Ramadan.

Stay hydrated – Staying hydrated is vital to keep on going through the day. Water is the best choice so try to drink at least 8-12 cups of water per day.

Avoid working out during the fasting hours – This is useful as your energy levels can drastically decrease while fasting so instead, try to work out like 2-3 hours after Iftar, to digest the food. Drink lots of water during your workout.

Make sure to have your medicines correctly – If you are pregnant, or you have certain medicines to intake throughout the day, you should consult your doctor before fasting to know when you will have those medicines. You should adapt fasting to your physical condition.

This table will hopefully help you understand some meals or food that would be good and bad to take during Iftar and Suhoor, to keep more energetic and healthy during Ramadan. Use this table to your own risk.

Complex carbohydrates like oats or lentils
to keep your blood sugar steady
Sugary and processed foods. They won’t give you the energy needed.
High-fibre foods like dates, cereal and lots of fruit. These are digested slowly, keeping you full for longerCaffeinated drinks
Protein-rich foods like eggs or meat which could replenish your energy throughout
the day.
Deep frying/oily/junk food
Fruits and vegetablesReplace fried foods with grilled foods
Soups are good to give you nutrients and
keep you hydrated
Add seeds and yoghurts to your meals to
give you your vitamins

Take your meals slowly. Start with some water, a few dates, and after a few minutes, start your meal, which could be a soup with vegetables. Incorporate some lean protein and go from there. Eat slowly and make sure to monitor your sugar levels if you are diabetic.

That was my article today on how to keep healthy and energetic during Ramadan. I hope this helps you. In Sha Allah, more articles will be coming soon so stay tuned. Use these tips to your own risk. Check out my other Ramadan articles too:
