Egg and Chapati Recipe / The Authentic Bangladeshi Recipe

Hey everyone! I have decided to start a new series all about cooking. Cooking has been a skill that I have always wanted to learn, so in this series, I wanted to record all the recipes I learn from my mother (who is a great cook!) and also share it here. These recipes are delicious and simple!

One dish that is quick and easy to make but also has the perfect combination of carbohydrates and protein is egg and chapati. In this article, I will be sharing my egg and chapati recipe which is homemade by my mother.

The egg is like an omelette and the chapati is an unleavened flatbread. Both the omelette and the chapati can last until the next day if stored in the fridge (take this at your own risk).

How To Cook The Omelette:

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 eggs
  • Onions (optional)
  • Oil

Steps:

  1. Firstly, crack 2-3 eggs in one bowl.
  2. If you want the yolk to be visible in the egg (perfect for eating with chapatis), then don’t whisk the egg. If you don’t want the yolk to be visible, whisk the egg.
  3. Chop a quarter of an onion into small pieces and add it to the egg mixture. This is optional.
  4. Add some oil to a frying pan and spread it around by turning the pan around.
  5. Pour the egg mixture into the frying pan.
  6. Leave the egg mixture to settle and fry for 1-2 minutes at medium heat, and then flip it around.
  7. Wait for another 2 minutes.
  8. Your omelette is ready to serve.

How To Cook The Chapatti:

Ingredients:

  • Flour (we use Elephant Atta)
  • Salt

Steps:

  1. Put one cup (like mug size) of flour into a large bowl.
  2. Add 1-2 teaspoons of salt into the bowl.
  3. Add water until it is a dough that flows down. Mix well.
  4. Spread one tablespoon of oil onto a pan and spread it around with a tissue.
  5. Place the flour mixture into the pan quickly.
  6. Create a circular shape with the flour mixture.
  7. Wait 2 minutes for it to cook.
  8. Flip the chapati to the other side.
  9. Wait for a further 2 minutes.
  10. You can make more chapatis if there is more mixture left.

You can serve one person with this combination of egg and chapati.

Thank you so much for reading, and have a lovely day!
